Schafer Hall is new construction of 91 units of permanent supportive housing in the East Harlem community of Manhattan.

30 apartments are for families headed by an adult living with special needs, 36 apartments are for single adults living with special needs, and 25 apartments are for young adults recently aged out of foster care.

Schafer Hall has an on-site social services program that provides supportive services for all tenants. Program goals focus on housing retention and economic, social, psychological, and health stability.

Social Workers and Case Management Staff provide the following services:

  • Counseling

  • Case management

  • Facilitated groups

  • Community referrals

  • Recreation activities
  • Nutrition and cooking workshops
  • Employment and educational assistance

Community Lantern Corp., a social service affiliate of Lantern Organization, will provide the services for the single and young adults; Bailey House provides the services for families.

Schafer Hall is within walking distance of commercial establishments and convenience stores, public transportation, schools, parks and playgrounds, community facilities, and hospitals and clinics.
